Retirement Planning

Grow your savings safely and secure income for retirement.

Retirement planning comes down to two things: growing savings safely and turning them into reliable lifetime income, and preparing for long-term care. Medicare generally does not pay for ongoing custodial care, so it pays to plan ahead.

Annuities

An annuity is a contract with an insurance company: you deposit money, and the insurer protects your principal, guarantees a rate, or pays you income for life. Growth is tax-deferred until you withdraw.

Fixed annuity (MYGA)

A guaranteed rate for a set number of years, similar in concept to a bank CD.

Fixed indexed annuity

Growth linked to a market index, with no loss of principal when the market falls.

Income annuity

Deposit once and receive monthly income for life, starting now or later.

Annuities usually have a surrender period; large early withdrawals may incur charges. Mandy will review your liquidity needs before you apply.

Long-Term Care Insurance

Helps pay for in-home care, assisted living and nursing homes — protecting your savings and easing the load on your children.

  • Applying younger usually means easier approval and a lower premium

Traditional LTC

Dedicated care coverage at a lower premium; premiums are not returned if you never use it.

Hybrid life or annuity + LTC

Use the benefit for care if you need it; if you don't, it passes to your family.

Common questions

How is an annuity different from a bank CD?

Both can offer a guaranteed rate. Annuity growth is tax-deferred and can become lifetime income, but money is less liquid and there is usually a surrender period.

Does Medicare pay for long-term care?

Generally no. Medicare covers limited short-term skilled nursing after a hospital stay, with day limits and conditions, but not ongoing custodial care.

When is the best time to buy long-term care coverage?

Many people look into it in their 50s or early 60s. Health is key to approval, so planning earlier gives you more options.
